The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office employees six post certified Deputies to work in the Beauregard Parish Schools. The School Resource Officer is an educator, law enforcer, and counselor. As an educator, the School Resource Officer visits classrooms and teaches students concepts of safety, general law, and crime prevention techniques.
The School Resource Officer works closely with individual teachers to create special programs tailored to specific units of study. These presentations help increase student awareness and understanding of laws and personal safety. Areas that School Resource Officers provide guidance to faculty and students include presentations on topics such as: Bullying, Cyber-bullying, and topics related to social media use and other laws pertaining to schools and students.
As a uniformed Sheriff’s Deputy, the School Resource Officer provides a positive image of law enforcement in an effort to help young people make constructive choices in their lives. The School Resource Officers in Beauregard Parish strive to develop relationships within the school that are beneficial to the school, the students, and the Sheriff’s Office.
The School Resource Officer’s primary duty is to protect the schools safe environment and to maintain an atmosphere where students, teachers, and staff feel safe enough to learn. This is a duty that the School Resource Officers take very seriously and consider it an honor to serve the community in this way.
The School Resource Officer investigates criminal activity occurring on school campuses. Although not a disciplinarian, the School Resource Officer conducts investigations with school administrators in accordance with Louisiana State Law, school policy, and the policy of the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office. The School Resource Officer only takes action when a violation has occurred.
