The Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Teams are consisted of the SWAT team and Chase Team. Each team requires dedication and specialized training. All SRT members are assigned to various divisions within the department, but volunteer their time to the SRT.
The presence of a highly trained, highly skilled, police tactical unit has been shown to substantially reduce the risk of injury and loss of life to citizens, police officers, and suspects when called upon to assist in the resolution of critical incidents.
Beauregard Parish SWAT team mission:
The primary responsibility of the SWAT team will be the resolution of different police situations outside the realm of the ordinary patrol response, through the use of developed skills, tactics, and specialized equipment/capabilities.
Situations that require activation of SWAT:
The holding of any person(s) against their will by an armed or potentially armed dangerous person(s).
A stand-off created by an armed or potentially dangerous person(s) in any location, fortified or not, who is refusing to comply with police demands for surrender/compliance.
The firing upon citizens and or police by an armed suspect, stationary or mobile.
High Risk Apprehension:
The arrest or apprehension of an armed or potentially dangerous suspect, where the likelihood of an armed or violent resistance is high, or where potential risk to involved officers is higher than normal.
High Risk Search Warrant:
Search warrants requiring or likely requiring, forced entry or dynamic room clearing techniques.
The security of special personnel (i.e. visiting dignitaries, VIP’s, witnesses, or suspects), based on threat to their safety and or security.
The secondary responsibility of the SWAT team will be to provide a wide range of police services, in furtherance of the departmental goals and objectives.
BEAUREGARD PARISH CHASE TEAM MISSION:
The mission of the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department Chase Unit is to provide the custody and control of inmates through the enforcement of laws, to ensure the safety of the public and fellow officers, the prevention of an inmate escape, the apprehension of escapees or criminals at large, preventing the introduction of controlled dangerous substances into the correctional facility and quelling any other disturbances that may occur.
CHASE TEAM GOALS AND OBJECTIVES:
A. To maximize public safety through the prevention of escape, apprehension, and return of inmates who have escaped the custody and control of the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Department.
B. To aid in apprehension of fugitives or criminals at large.
C. To aid in search and rescue missions for missing persons.
